Gadhada II-16: Faith in God and Faith in Dharma

- By maintaining resolute faith in God, faith in dharma will remain firm. But my maintaining faith in dharma alone, faith in God declines.
- Whether one has vairāgya or not, only by observing niyams can the desire for panchvishays be conquered.
- The indriyas of one with feeble shraddhā are not under control. He attains liberation after countless births.
- Characteristics of one with strong shraddhā:
- His indriyas are under control.
- He attains gnān and immediately attains the highest state of enlightenment.
- When he wants to engage in God-related activities, he hastily carries out bodily activities.
- He remains eager for God’s darshan and observing niyams.
- By understanding the greatness of God, one’s feeble shraddhā flourishes to strong shraddhā.
