Gadhada II-41: A Bone in the Form of Egotism
Summary
- Serving God and devotees:
- Should be considered to be one’s extremely great fortune.
- Should be done only to please God.
- Should be done for one’s liberation only.
- Should be done with bhakti.
- The nature of a jiva is such that he only enjoys doing that which satisfies his vanity.
- When a dog chews on a dry bone, its mouth becomes abraded and bleeds. The dog takes pleasure in tasting its own blood. Similarly, the jiva takes pleasure in its own ego.
- One who worships God having forsaken vanity is an extremely great devotee amongst all devotees.
