Gadhada III-1: The Inclinations of Gnān and Affection
Summary
- If one has firm ātmā-realisation and firm vairāgya, then no obstacles due to adverse circumstances will come in the way of one’s bhakti.
- Due to firm ātmā-realisation, the māyik pleasures are negated; and due to firm vairāgya, all forms except for God’s form and all vishays are negated.
- One who has an inclination of gnān:
- Understands the profound greatness of God.
- Understands God to be antaryāmi.
- Understands that God recognises a devotee’s inclination and speaks to him accordingly, but He does not act based on others’ advice.
- One who has an inclination of affection:
- Cannot stay without God even for a moment.
- Would be willing to do whatever is necessary for God.
- Would never develop anger or jealousy toward or perceive a fault in God or His devotees.
- One who perceives faults in God does not possess either the inclination of gnān or affection.
- One should read the Shikshāpatri daily.
