Gadhada III-18: The Degeneration of Worldly Desires
Summary
- The dreams that springs forth are due to ingrained desires [vāsanā] generated by karmas performed in past lives.
- By associating with the Satpurush, the ingrained desires gradually degenerate.
- When the thoughts related to God defeat the thoughts related to the vishays, then it should be understood that one’s ingrained desires have degenerated.
- One who is free of worldly desires only engages in worldly activities to the extent of the instructions given by God. One who is not free of worldly desires would not be able to detach himself from worldly activities by himself or even if instructed by God.
