Gadhada III-33: Not Allowing the Mind to Become Affected by Four Things
Summary
- The mind of one who has ātmā-realisation and vairāgya and understands the greatness of God would not be affected by wealth, property, women, children, etc.
- If one receives honour or association of wealth and women, then even if he is a great sādhus, he would not be able to maintain his integrity. Therefore, one should shun these.
- Characteristics of one who has ‘entered’ God:
- He has an intense affection for God.
- He has constant awareness of the form of God.
- He behaves as if infatuated with the form of God.
- He physically engages in the service of God.
- He remains attached to and has a yearning for God’s bhakti and other God-related activities.
- If a devotee of God is vulnerable to women, wealth, swabhāvs and the belief that one is the body, then even if he is engaged in the bhakti of God, he will encounter hindrances in his bhakti. If one has any one of these four, one should abandon them with understanding.
