Gadhada I-26: A Genuine Amorous Devotee; The Nirgun State
Summary
- A genuine amorous devotee:
- In the wakeful state in the physical body:
- He is attracted to the five vishays related to God.
- He bears an aversion to the worldly vishays.
- In the dream state in the subtle [sukshma] body:
- He experiences bliss related to God only.
- He bears an aversion to other vishays similar to an aversion to vomit.
- A false amorous devotee:
- In the wakeful state in the physical body and in the dream state in the sukshma body, just as he experiences pleasure from God-related vishays he experiences equal pleasure from worldly vishays.
- His upāsanā and understanding is flawed.
- When only thoughts of God remain, then one identifies one’s self and brahma and sees form of God in his heart.
- Affection towards only the form of God in this manner is called faithful bhakti [pativratāni bhakti].
