Gadhada I-34: Setting the World in Motion
Summary
- One becomes attracted to worldly objects instead of God because, just as a watch is wound, similarly, God set the world in motion in the form of māyā – affection toward relations of the body.
- Means to overcome māyā:
- Developing vairāgya by maintaining an aversion for worldly objects.
- Knowing God to be absolutely blissful and keeping one’s vrutti focused on God.
- The happiness and misery experienced by a non-believer is determined by his own karmas.
- The happiness experienced by a devotee of God is due to observing His commands; and the misery experienced is due to lapses in observing God’s commands.
