Gadhada I-42: The Observance of the Moral Do’s and Don’ts
Summary
- Understanding of Vedāntis: Only Brahma is satya and the moral do’s and don’ts are false.
- Understanding of Vedāntis is false because:
- Shankarāchārya [āchārya of all Vedāntis] propounded observance of moral do’s and don’ts and composed verses in praise of deities.
- Due to having attained the nirvikalp state, one may not see jivas, ishwars, māyā, etc. separately but may only see Brahma; however they all exist in reality.
- They [Vedāntis] meticulously performs all worldly activities, believing them to be real; yet, on the other hand, they falsify the moral do’s and don’ts which have been prescribed by the scriptures.
- If everything is Brahma, then the mutual affection husbands and wives have should cause them to become gunātit.
- No matter how great one may be, bad company always leads to harm. No matter how grave a sinner one may be, maintaining profound association with God leads one to become absolutely pure and attain liberation.
- Moral do’s and don’ts are true. One who falsifies them are consigned to narak.
