Gadhada I-66: Misinterpreting the Words of the Scriptures; The Four Emanations of God
Summary
- When one encounters the talk of the four emanations of God in the Shrimad Bhāgwat:
- When the term nirgun is used, it is in reference to Vāsudev.
- When the term sagun is used, it is in reference to Sankarshan, Pradyumna, and Aniruddha.
- The words of the scriptures cannot be understood in their true context by anyone except an ekāntik bhakta:
- “God is nirgun”: this means He is devoid of māyik attributes; but possesses countless redemptive virtues.
- “God is formless”: this means He does not possess a māyik form but possesses a divine form.
- “God is an immense mass of light”: due to the immense light in God’s form, He appears to be just a mass of light; but that light emanates from the divine form of God.
- “God assumes a physical body”:
- Due to the powers of God, māyik objects become non-māyik; therefore, God’s physical body is also non-māyik – meaning divine.
- He transcends Akshar.
- He is the ātmā of countless millions of muktas and Akshardhām.
