દક્ષ પ્રજાપતિ
શાસ્ત્રોમાં આવતાં પાત્રો
દક્ષ સ્વયંભૂ મન્વંતરમાં બ્રહ્મદેવે નિર્માણ કરેલા દશ મોંહેના એક માનસપુત્ર અને ઉમાના (પાર્વતી) પિતા હતા. તે સર્વે પ્રજાપતિના અધિપતિ હતા. સ્વયંભૂ મનુએ પોતાની ત્રણ કન્યામાંથી પ્રસૂતિ નામની કન્યા તેને પરણાવી હતી. પોતાની પુત્રી સતી ભગવાન શંકરને આપી હતી. શિવજી વડે પોતાનો સત્કાર ન થતાં ક્રોધાવેશમાં શિવજીને અપમાનિત કરવા યજ્ઞ કર્યો અને શિવજીને આમંત્રણ ન આપ્યું. સતી શિવજીની આજ્ઞાને ઉલ્લંઘીને યજ્ઞમાં ગયાં અને ત્યાં તેમનું અપમાન થતાં સતીએ પોતાના યોગાગ્નિ વડે દેહત્યાગ કર્યો. તેથી શિવના ગણોએ યજ્ઞનો નાશ કર્યો. દક્ષનું માથું કાપીને યજ્ઞમાં નાંખ્યું. દેવોએ કૈલાસમાં જઈને શિવજી પાસે ક્ષમાં માંગી. શિવજી યજ્ઞમાં આવ્યા. દક્ષને બકરાનું મુખ ચોંટાડીને જીવતો કર્યો. દક્ષે માફી માગી અને શિવજીની પાસે યજ્ઞની સમાપ્તિ કરાવી.

During the Swayambhu manvantar, Daksha is one of the ten human sons of Brahmā. He is also the father of Umā (Pārvati). He was the governor of all the prajāpatis. He was married to Swayambhu Manu’s daughter named Prasuti. He gave Sati (Pārvati) in marriage to Shivji.
Once, he was not received by Shivji. He purposely arranged a yagna and did not invite Shivji to insult him. Sati went to her father’s yagna even though Shivji told her not to go. However, Sati was not welcome at the yagna. Deeply upset, he self-immolated herself in the yagna fire. Shivji’s hordes destroyed the yagna by cutting Daksha’s head off and sacrificing it in the yagna fire. The devas asked Shivji for forgiveness. Shivji cut a goat’s head off and put it on Daksha’s body. Daksha asked for forgiveness and completed the yagna in Shivji’s presence.
