કશ્યપ પ્રજાપતિ
શાસ્ત્રોમાં આવતાં પાત્રો
બ્રહ્માના માનસપુત્ર મરીચિ અને કર્દમની પુત્રી કલાના પુત્ર કશ્યપ હતા. તેઓ પ્રાણી સૃષ્ટિના ઉત્પાદક હોવાથી તેમને પ્રજાપતિ પણ કહે છે. તેમની સૃષ્ટિમાં દેવ, દૈત્ય, મનુષ્ય, નાગ, પક્ષી ઇત્યાદિક ઉત્પન્ન થયાં. વિષ્ણુએ પણ કશ્યપની પત્ની અદિતિના પેટે વામન અવતાર ધર્યો હતો. તેમનો આશ્રમ મેરુ પર્વત પર હતો. તેમને નીતિ બહુ જ બહાલી હતી.

Kashyap was the son of Marichi (the human son of Brahmā) and Kardam Rishi’s daughter Kalā. He was responsible for the creation of animals, hence he is known as a prajāpati (one who populates the earth). His creation includes the devas, dānavs (demons), humans, serpents, birds, etc. Vishnu had been born to his wife Aditi as the Vāman avatār. His āshram was on Mount Meru. Ethics was very dear to him.
