ઋષભદેવ
અવતારો
ઋષભદેવ એ વિષ્ણુના ચોવીશ અવતારોમાંનો એક અવતાર છે. તે તત્ત્વતઃ જીવચૈતન્ય છે. જીવચૈતવમાં પરબ્રહ્મ પુરુષોત્તમનારાયણના અનુપ્રવેશથી આ અવતાર થાય છે. ઋષભદેવ સ્વાયંભૂવંશમાં રાજર્ષિ અને મેરુદેવી થકી જન્મ્યા હતા. મહાન યોગી અને તત્ત્વવેત્તા હતા. ઇન્દ્રની કન્યા જયંતીને પરણ્યા હતા અને તેમને ૧૦૦ પુત્રો થયા હતા. જેમાં ભરત મોટા હતા. પ્રજાનું ઉત્તમ પ્રકારે પાલન કરી પ્રજાને તેમ જ પોતાના પુત્રોને બ્રહ્મવિદ્યાનો ઉપદેશ આપ્યો હતો. આત્મઅનુસંધાન વડે દેહનું ભાન ભૂલી ગયા હતા.
ઋષભદેવે પોતાના પુત્રોને ઉપદેશ આપી સંન્યાસ ગ્રહણ કરાવ્યો. મોટા પુત્ર ભરતને ગાદી આપી પોતે પણ રાજ્યનો ત્યાગ કર્યો. વનમાં દિગંબર અવસ્થામાં જડ, અંધ, બધિર, મૂંગા, પિશાચ અને ગાંડાઓના જેવી ચેષ્ટાઓ કરતાં અવધૂત બનીને ફરવા લાગ્યા. આ વખતે તેમની પાસે આકાશગમન, મનોજવ, અંતર્ધાન, પરકાયાપ્રવેશ, દૂરગ્રહણ, દૂરશ્રવણ વગેરે સિદ્ધિઓ આવી છતાં તેમણે તેમનો મનથી આદર કે સ્વીકાર કર્યો નહીં. આવી જ અવસ્થામાં ફરતાં ફરતાં દક્ષિણ કર્ણાટકના દેશોમાં ગયા અને મોઢામાં પથ્થરનો ટુકડો નાંખેલા. તથા વાળ વીખરેલા પાગલની જેમ કુટકાચલના વનમાં વિચરવા લાગ્યા. ત્યાં વંટોળને કારણે વાંસનાં વૃક્ષો પરસ્પર ઘસાવાથી દાવાનળ ભભૂક્યો અને તેમાં જ ઋષભદેવજીનો દેહ પણ બળી ગયો.
ગુણાતીતાનંદ સ્વામીએ ઋષભદેવની આ અંત અવસ્થાનો ઉલ્લેખ સ્વામીના વાતો ૧/૧૩૪માં કર્યો છે.

Rushabhdev is one of the 24 avatārs of Vishnu. In terms of entities, he is of the jiva entity. When Parabrahma Purushottam Narayan enters the jiva entity, it is capable of incarnating as an avatār. Rushabhdev was born to Rājarshi and Merudevi, who are descendants of Swāyambhu. He was a great yogi and possessed knowledge of the tattvas. He married Indra’s daughter Jayanti and had 100 sons. Bharat was the eldest of his sons. He cared for the subjects of his kingdom. He gave his sons brahmavidyā. Becoming deeply engrossed in his ātmā, he lost all consciousness of his body.
Rushabhdev became a sannyasi after handing over his kingdom to his sons. He wandered through the forest in the form of Digambar (a naked ascetic), and acted ignorant, deaf, mute, and insanely. In this state, the Siddhis (powers: ability to see far, enter others body, fly in the air, etc.) came to him; however, he did not welcome them or accept them. He traveled to the southern state of Karnatak where he put a stone in his mouth. With unkempt hair, he wandered through the forest, which caught fire. Rushabhdev cast his body in the forest fire.
