પાંડવ
શાસ્ત્રોમાં આવતાં પાત્રો
પાંડુ રાજાના પુત્રો પાંડવ કહેવાય છે. પાંડવમાં યુધિષ્ઠિર, ભીમસેન, અર્જુન, નકુલ, સહદેવનો સમાવેશ થાય છે. કુંતી માતાએ દુર્વાસાની સેવા કરેલી ત્યારે તેમણે કુંતીને પાંચ મંત્રો આપેલા, જેનાથી ત્રણ દૈવી પુત્રોની પ્રાપ્તિ થઈ હતી, જે યુધિષ્ઠિર, ભીમસેન, અને અર્જુન હતા. કુંતીએ પાંડુની બીજી પત્ની માદરીને મંત્ર આપ્યો અને માદરીને બે પુત્રોની પ્રાપ્તિ થઈ, જે નકુલ અને સહદેવ હતા. પાંડુના અવસાન પછી માદરી સતી થઈ અને પાંચે ભાઈઓ કુંતી સાથે રહેતા.
પાંચેય ભાઈઓનાં લગ્ન પાંચાલ રાજાની પુત્રી દ્રૌપદી સાથે થયેલાં. પાંડવોને રાજ્ય માટે ધૃતરાષ્ટ્રના પુત્રો કૌરવો સાથે યુદ્ધ થયેલું, જેમાં કૃષ્ણની સહાયથી પાંડવો વિજયી બન્યા હતા. રાજ્ય જીત્યા બાદ થોડાં વર્ષો રાજ્ય કરી પરીક્ષિતને હસ્તિનાપુરની રાજગાદી સોંપી પાંચ પાંડવો વનમાં જતા રહ્યા. તેઓ શ્રીકૃષ્ણના પરમ ભક્ત હતા અને તેમની આજ્ઞા પ્રમાણે જ તમામ પ્રવૃત્તિ કરતા હતા.
કુંતીને ધર્મરાજા (યમરાજા) દ્વારા યુધિષ્ઠિર, વાયુદેવ દ્વારા ભીમસેન, અને ઇન્દ્ર દ્વારા અર્જુન પ્રાપ્ત થયા હતા.

The Pāndavs were collectively the five sons of King Pāndu. They include Yudhishthir, Bhimsen, Arjun, Nakul, and Sahadev. From the boon granted by Durvasa, Kunti acquired three godly sons from the devas: Yudhishthir, Bhimsen, and Arjun. Kunti gave the mantra to Madri, Pandu’s second wife. She used the mantra and acquired Nakul and Sahadev. After Pāndu died, Madri self-immolated herself on his funeral pyre. The five brothers stayed with Kunti.
All five were married to Draupadi, the daughter of the king of Pānchāl. The Pāndavs and Kauravs (the 100 sons of Dhrutrāshtra, king of Hastinapur) fought for the right to rule Hastinapur. With the help of Krishna, the Pāndavs won the Mahabharat war. After ruling for a few years, they handed the rule of Hastinapur to Parikshit and retired to the forest. They were great devotees of Krishna and conducted their duties as according to his commands.
Kunti conceived Yudhishthir from Dharma Rājā (Yama), Bhimsen from Vāyudev, and Arjun from Indradev.
