Gadhada II-63: Gaining Strength

Nirupan

Gunātitānand Swāmi said, “We do not have strength like that of Krupanand Swami and other seniors sadhus, so instead of comparing ourselves with them we should observe the eleven niyams and we will become as strong as they are. The company of this Sadhu is such that upāsanā, dharma, etc. are all included. Nothing is left.” On this Vachanamrut Gadhada II-63 (Gaining Strength) was read.

[Swāmini Vāto: 5/168]

Samvat 1952. Mahuva. Bhagatji Mahārāj had Ganpatrām read Vachanāmrut Gadhadā II-63 and said, “This Vachanāmrut is about gaining strength. One is considered to have gained satsang when one recognizes the Satpurush and develops faith in him. But the degree to which one attaches to the Satpurush, that much strength is gained by the jiva. The indriyas and the antahkaran of such devotees with strength are controlled by the jiva itself; but the inclinations of the indriyas and antahkaran and the inclinations of the jiva are not separate. Whatever the jiva’s inclination is, that is the inclination of the indriyas and antahkaran - they become one. The jiva of one who as affection for God and the Sant and has faith in serving them, and possesses the nine types of bhakti immediately gains great strength. Therefore, there is no greater means to gain strength than to serve God and his Bhakta. Intense service, intense faith, and bhakti couple with the knowledge of his greatness - the strength the jiva gains from these three is not gained by knowing the discretion of the drashtā (the observer - jiva) and the drashya (the objects being observed) and behaving as the drashtā. Why? Mahārāj has explained further in the Vachanāmrut: ‘Much better than behaving as the ātmā is to stay within the fellowship of God and His devotees.’ I then became afraid, ‘What if by behaving as the ātmā, I cannot return to this body again?”’ Therefore, by arranging samaiyā, rās, festivals, Mahārāj kept his devotees close to him and taught them this type of bhakti. The great have also done likewise. Gunātitānand Swāmi also served the sick sadhus in many ways. I also served Swāmi by realizing his implicit commands to do sevā. There is no greater merit that to serve God’s devotees. One should understand the greatness of God’s devotees and serve them; but in no way should one develop a grudge against them and malign them.”

[Brahmaswarup Prāgji Bhakta: 411]

Yogiji Mahārāj said, “The means to gain strength in is Gadhadā II-63: faith in service of God, affection toward the Sant, and the nine types of bhakti coupled with the knowledge of his greatness. Keep these three firm and practice satsang with pure feelings. Pure feelings means, Mahārāj who resides in Akshardhām is manifest today in the form of the Sant. Practicing satsang with that thought is practicing with pure feelings. When that happens, then dharma, gnān, vairāgya, and bhakti are perfected. Only when one gains the company of such an Ekāntik Satpurush can one perfect ekāntik dharma. Therefore, recognize him and worship God.”

[Yogi Vāni: 3/14]

Gunātitānand Swāmi had Gadhadā II-63 read and said, “The means for the jiva to gain strength is just this: If the jiva thinks this way, how can it not progress? But it does not think this way, hence, remains weak. And if it thinks this way - I have attained a Sant like this - then it would not remain subdued by anyone. Because the jiva does not think this way, thoughts, such as what will happen, how will how social affairs continue, come. And the jiva remains weak. There is no peace elsewhere if you leave God...
