ઇતિહાસ
(૧) રે સગપણ હરિવરનું સાચું
આ કીર્તનમાં બ્રહ્માનંદ સ્વામી પોતાનાં કુટુંબી જનોને સમજાવે છે કે ભગવાનનું સગપણ સાચુ છે અને બીજા સંબંધો ક્ષણભંગુર છે. જ્યારે લાડુદાનજીએ સાંભળ્યું કે ગઢડામાં સ્વામિનારયણ ભગવાન તરીકે પૂજાય છે, ત્યારે તેમને માન્યામાં આવ્યું નહિ. આવા દંભીને ખુલ્લા પાડવાના આશયે તેઓ ગઢડા આવ્યા, પણ રસ્તામાં શંકા થઈ કે કદાચ ભગવાન હોય તો? માટે તેમને ચાર સંકલ્પો કર્યા અને જો આ ચાર સંકલ્પ પૂરા કરે તો જ ભગવાન માનવા:
૧. એમણે ધારણ કરેલો ગુલાબનો હાર મને પહેરાવી નામ દઈને બોલાવે.
૨. બંને ચરણારવિંદમાં સોળ દિવ્ય ચિહ્નો દેખાડે.
૩. મારી ઓળખાણ આપે.
૪. કાળા વસ્ત્રમાં વીંટેલો ભાગવતનો ગ્રંથ વાંચતા હોય.
આ ચારેય સંકલ્પો પૂરા કર્યા ત્યારે કવિશ્વર શ્રીજી મહારાજનાં ચરણમાં ઝૂકી પડ્યા. ત્યાર બાદ જીવુબા અને લાડુબાના ઉપદેશથી તેમને સંસારનો ત્યાગ કરી અને મહારાજના સાધુની દિક્ષા ગ્રહણ કરી અને શ્રીરંગદાસજી બન્યા. આ સાંભળી લાડુદાનજીના મામાને ઘણું દુઃખ થયું.
લાડુદાનજીને મૂકીને એમના મામા ખાણ ગામ પહોંચ્યા. અહીં કુટુંબીઓને ગઢપુરમાં બનેલી વાત કહી. આ સાંભળી લાડુદાનજીને સમજાવવા સર્વ કુટુંબીઓ તરત ગઢપુર આવ્યાં. બ્રહ્માનંદ સ્વામીએ એમને સૌને મહારાજનો અદ્ભુત મહિમા સમજાવ્યો. સાક્ષાત્ ભગવાનની પ્રાપ્તિ થઈ, તો મનુષ્યજીવન સાર્થક કરવા પોતાનો છેવટનો નિર્ણય જણાવ્યો. એમને મનથી વરી ચૂકેલી કન્યા પણ સાથે હતી. એને પણ સ્વામીએ કહી મોકલ્યુ:
‘રે સગપણ હરિવરનું સાચું, બીજું સર્વે ક્ષણભંગુર કાચું....’
છતાં સૌ કરગરતા રહ્યા. સ્વામી ચલિત ન થયા. એમનો નિશ્ચય અચળ હતો. કસોટી કરવા મહારાજે પણ એમને ઘેર જવા આજ્ઞા કરી. આ આદેશ સાંભળી જાણે વીજળી પડી હોય એમ બ્રહ્માનંદ સ્વામી મૂર્છિત થઈ ગયા. કુટુંબીઓએ એમનો સાચો ભાવ જોયો. સૌનાં મન પીગળી ગયાં. માતાના કોડ પૂરા કરવા મહારાજ બ્રહ્માનંદ સ્વામીની ‘મા’ બન્યા. પોતાની પ્રસાદીનો રેંટો એમનાં માને આપ્યો અને સૌને રાજી કરી વિદાય કર્યા.
History
(1) Re sagpaṇ Harivarnu sāchu
This kirtan was sung by Brahmanand Swami to his family, explaining that the only true relationship is one with God.
Hearing that Swaminarayan residing in Gadhada is worshiped as God, Ladudanji had come to Gadhada to expose Swaminarayan as a fake, as he believe God would not manifest in Kali-Yug. However, on the way his mind filled with doubts - perhaps he is God. Therefore, he decided to accept him as God if he fulfilled his four wishes:
(1) Let him place the rose garland he is wearing around my neck and call me by my name.
(2) Let him show me the sixteen divine signs on his feet.
(3) Let him introduce me by relating my life story.
(4) Let him be reading from the Bhagvat wrapped in a black cloth.
Seeing Maharaj’s magnetic personality and fulfilling his four wishes, however, Ladudanji fell to his feet. Eventually, listening to Jivuba and Laduba’s words of renunciation, he shed his past to become one of Maharaj’s sadhus. As Ladudanji was the prize of their family and had already been offered two daughters in marriage, this broke the dreams of his uncle.
Leaving Ladudanji in Gadhada, the poet’s uncle soon came to Khan and related to his family all that had transpired. After hearing what Ladudanji had done, the family decided to go to Gadhada to persuade him to return home.
However, once they arrived in Gadhada, Brahmanand Swami explained to them about Maharaj’s unparalleled greatness. He told them that he had found God and so it was his final decision to renounce the world in order to fulfil his purpose in life.
To his fiance, who had also come to Gadhada with the family, he composed a kirtan and had it conveyed to her. The words of the kirtan words were:
“Re sagpana Harivarnu sāchu,
biju sarve kshan-bhangur kāchu.”
Meaning, “The only true relationship is that with God; all the rest is momentary and fragile.”
“I believe only my betrothal to God as everlasting and real and the type of betrothal you are describing is temporary and false.”
Brahmanand Swami’s family members continued to beg him to change his mind, yet, all the while, he remained determined. His decision was firm and irrevocable.
In spite of all this and in order to test Brahmanand Swami’s resolve, Maharaj directed him to go back home. Taken by surprise, Brahmanand Swami felt as if lightning had struck him and he suddenly fainted.
Everyone’s hearts melted upon seeing Brahmanand Swami’s sincere and deep attachment to Maharaj.
But, his mother still had one worry: Who would now give Ladudanji the love that she had once given him? Reading her thoughts, Maharaj promised her that he himself would act as Brahmanand Swami’s mother and offer him love and affection. He then presented her a sanctified cloth and pleased the entire family.
Having accepted Brahmanand Swami’s decision and appreciating his firm faith in Maharaj, the family began to prepare for the journey back to Rajasthan.
