Translation
(1) Shobhāsāgar Shyām tamārī mūrti pyārī re
This well-known kirtan by Premanand Swami is a comparison of various deities and animals to Shriji Maharaj. The essence is that nothing comes close in comparison to Maharaj’s beauty.
Shobhāsāgar Shyām tamārī mūrti pyārī re;
Maharaj, your murti is an ocean of beauty.
Mūrti pyārī re nākhu mārā prāṇ vārī re...
I sacrifice my life for your murti.
Sundartā joī mukhnī Shashī Sur lajāī re;
Seeing your beautiful face, Shashi (the moon deity) and Sur (the sun deity) were ashamed...
The Sun and the Moon are considered attractive among the deities.
Mukh dekhādi nav shakyā vasyā gagan jāī re... shobhā 1
They were unable to show their face and left to reside in the sky. (They had to hide their face since Maharaj is even more attractive in comparison.)
Mān haryu maṇidharnu shikhā kesh kāḷe re;
The darkness of your hair destroyed the ego of a manidhar - a cobra that has a precious jewel embedded on its head. This cobra is known to have a dark head. However, Maharaj’s hair was even darker.
Avnī upar rahī na shakyā gayā pāṭāḷe re... shobhā 2
These serpents were unable to stay on the earth, so they left to reside in the patal-lok (the underworld).
Chanchaḷ lochan joīne lajjā pāmyā tīn re;
Noticing your beautiful active eyes, three (types of animals) felt ashamed.
Khanjan kurang van vasyā jaḷe buḍyā mīn re... shobhā 3
A beautiful bird and deer made the forest their home, and the fish stayed in the ocean.
Chāl chaturāī joīne gaj kare dhikkār re;
Seeing your expert walk, the elephants scorned themselves.
Premānand kahe shir nākhe dhuḷ vāramvār re... shobhā 4
Premanand Swami says they throw dirt on their head over and over again.
An elephant is known for its majestic walk. But Maharaj’ walk was even more majestic.
