Translation
(1) Sāchā santnā ang endhāṇ re joī levā jīvaḍīe
Nishkulanand Swami described the characteristics of a false sant. In this verse, Nishkulanand Swami mainly points out that a false sadhu has malicious intents, such as fulfilling his own desires and indulgences. Such a false sadhu tries to hide his maligned intents; however, when residing with such a person and observing their behaviour, their true motives become clear. No matter how much a false sadhu conceals his true motives, they will be exposed because desires that reside in his heart naturally determine his behavior.
Sāchā santnā ang endhāṇ re, joī levā jīvaḍīe;
Jene maḷve manyu kalyāṇ re, tene jovā ghaḍīghaḍīe... 1
(1) One should examine the characteristics of a true Sant. One should look frequently upon that Sant, who will grant moksha upon attaining him. (Since Nishkulanand Swami is starting to describe a false sadhu, the meaning of these lines should be understood as: Understand the characteristics of a true Sant and check to see if they exist in the person before accepting him as a great Sant.)
Khātā pītā jotā jaṇāshe re, āshay enā antarno;
Ūṭhe bese bole kaḷāshe re, pāse vastā e narno... 2
(2) By observing him eat and drink, get up and sit, by staying close to him, one will recognize his true intentions.
Hashe hārad haiyā keru re, vaṇ kahye paṇ vartāshe;
Jem jem chhapāḍshe ghaṇerū re, tem tem chhatu thāshe... 3
(3) Even if he does not speak, one will know what is in his heart by his conduct or behavior. As much as he attempts to conceal his true nature, his true nature will be exposed.
Khāy khuṇe lasaṇ lakīre, te gandh kare chhupāvānu;
Kahe Nishkuḷānand vāt nakī re, jem chhe tem jaṇāvānu... 4
(4) One who secretly eats onions, even a small amount, has to hide the smell. Nishkulanand Swami says the truth will certainly be exposed as it is.
