Translation
(1) Anna dhan gaye maḷe anna dhan vastra gaye vastra maḷe
Anna dhan gaye maḷe anna dhan, vastra gaye vastra maḷe;
Gaye bhavan maḷe bhavan, din gaye din maḷe... 1
(1) Lost food, money, clothes, and homes can all be regained. If you lose a day, another will come to you.
Rāj gaye āvī maḷe rāj, sāj samāj sahi;
Paṇ gaī maḷe nahi lāj, kahevāṇī hatī te kahī... 2
(2) A lost kingdom can be regained along with its society and wealth. However, a lost reputation can never be regained. I have said what needs to be said.
Lāj khoīne karvu kāj, eto akāj kharu;
Mar maḷe Trilokinu rāj, ghoḷyu parharo paru... 3
(3) Any effort that leaves one with a lost reputation is worthless. Do not forsake it even if you are offered the reign of all three worlds.
Bethī badlāmī jene shīsh, ṭaḷe nahi koī paḷe;
Kahe Nishkuḷānand vasāvīsh, lakhāy chhe te kāgaḷe... 4
(4) The weight of a lost reputation on one’s head cannot be removed. “This is for sure,” says Nishkulanand Swami, “and it has thus been inscribed on paper.”
