(1) Dohyalu thāvu Haridās re santo
In this series of kirtans from Dhirajākhyān, Nishkulanand Swami is speaking to those who are walking the path of a sadhu. He explains the path of a sadhu is a difficult one, but if one wants to reach God, then one has to be strong, brave, and maintain dhiraj (forbearance). This can also apply to gruhasthas as they face challenges of their own.
Dohyalu thāvu Haridās re, santo dohyalu thāvu haridās;
Santo! It is difficult to become a servant of God.
Joīe tajvī tansukh āsh re, santo dohylu thāvu haridās...
One needs to discard their desires for comforts of the body if one wants to become a servant of God.
Shuro jem raṇmā laḍvā, dhare haiyāmā ati hulās;
A brave soldier goes to fight on the battleground with enthusiasm in his heart.
Peṭ kaṭārī mārī pag parṭhe, tene kenī rahī trās re... santo 1

Em kartā jo chaḍī gayā choṭe, to tarat leshu mukhe ghās re... santo 2
If cowards somehow became entangled in fighting, then they will take grass in their mouth (i.e. surrender) instead of fighting and losing their life.
Shurā santnī rīt ek sarkhī, karvo verīno vināsh;
The way of the brave sant is similar to the brave soldiers: their only thought is to destroy their (internal) enemies (mentioned in the next line).
Kām krodh lobh moh jīti, bhāve bhajvā avināsh re... santo 3
They worship God affectionately, having defeated lust, anger, greed, infatuation.
Evā bhakta te bhakta Harinā, teh sahe jag uphās;

Nishkuḷānand kahe te vinā bījā, teno nāve (kedi) vishvās re... santo 4
Nishkulanand Swami says others cannot be trusted.
