Translation
(1) Ame re Jaḍbharat jogiyā
In this kirtan, Nishkulanand Swami sets Jadbharat as the ideal example of a genuine sadhu. Holding Jadbharat in high esteem, he encourages those who have renounced to remain true to their path of renunciation.
Ame re Jaḍbharat jogiyā, ichchhu nahi vaibhogajī;
We are sadhus like Jadbharat. We do not wish for worldly pleasures.
Jagat padārath jīvane, ruche nahī jem rogjī... Ame° 1
The jiva has a distaste for worldly objects, just like a disease of the body.
Jūnā pānā paṭ pe’rashu, nahī ichchhu navīnjī;
We will wear old clothes; we will not desire new.
Shīt uṣhṇa shir sahīshu, rākhī kanthā kopīnjī... Ame° 2
We will tolerate the heat and the cold, wearing only a kaupin made of rough fabric.
Khaṭras khāvā nahi khoḷīe, jamshu je maḷashe annajī;
We will not search for tasty food; we will eat what we get.
Nirmāne dan nirgamshu, re’shu mane maganjī... Ame° 3
We will pass our days being humble. We will remain pleased in our mind.
Prīt sahushu paraharī, karashu Kṛuṣhṇa bhajanjī;
We will forsake affection for others and worship Bhagwan.
Morye amārā matmā, mṛuge karyu’tu vighanjī... Ame° 4
In the past, in our intellect, affection for a baby deer caused us an obstacle.
[Nishkulanand Swami is considered the avatār of Jadbharat, who was Bharatji, son of Rushabhdev, in his previous birth. After renouncing, he became attached to a deer. Subsequently, he was born as a deer in his next life. Thus, affection caused a hindrance in his renunciation. For this reason, he says we will forsake affection for others - the affection that leads one away from Bhagwan.]
Harṣh shok hāṇ vṛuddhine, saheshu sukh dukh tanjī;
We will tolerate joy, grief, loss, and success, and any happiness or misery of the body.
Niṣhkuḷānand kahe nahī daīe, nij kuḷne lānchhanjī... Ame° 5
Nishkulanand Swami says we will not disgrace our family (renunciation).
[Here, Nishkulanand Swami uses the word kul to refer to his āshram of tyagis. Just as one from a noble family would not disgrace their family name, Swami says we (speaking on behalf of all sadhus) will not behave contrary to the ideals of a sadhu so as not to disgrace our āshram.]
