(1) Chhānḍī ke Shrī Krishṇadev aur kī jo karu sev
This kirtan by Muktanand Swami is about the vow of fidelity (pativratānu) toward one’s Ishtadev. Brahmaswarup Pramukh Swami Maharaj has explained the significance of this kirtan here: Nirupan. Swami has used the name of Krishna but it should be understood that he is referring to Shriji Maharaj.
Chhānḍī ke Shrī Krishṇadev, aur kī jo karu sev;
If I ever desert Shri Krishna and serve someone else,
Kāṭī ḍāro kar mero, tīkhī tarvār se...
Then, cut my hands off with a sharp sword.
Tyāgī ke rasik kān, aur ko jo dharu dhyān;
If I ever abandon Krishna and meditate on another’s form;
Chīr ḍāro chhātī morī, kaṭhin kuṭhār se... chhānḍī 1
Then cut my chest with an ax.
Krishṇa bin anya jehī, īshṭ jāṇī namu tehī;
If I ever bow to anyone other than Krishna, with the understanding that they are God;
For ḍāro shir mero, musal prahār se... chhānḍī 2
Then smash my head with a pestle.
Muktānand kahe moy, aur kī jo pratīt hoy;
Muktanand Swami says, if I ever realize anyone else to be God;
Jāniyo adhik nich, shvapach labār se... chhānḍī 3
Then consider me to be the lowest of the low and a cunning person.
